Is digital marketing worth it for a small business?

It is worth it when three things are true: your margins can carry the cost, you know what one customer is worth, and you commit to one clear direction for at least three months. Break any of those and it burns cash.

Digital marketing is not magic and it is not a scam — it is leverage. Leverage multiplies whatever it is pointed at. Point it at a clear offer, a good product and a business that answers the phone, and it compounds. Point it at a vague offer and it simply helps more people ignore you, faster.

Do the arithmetic before you spend anything. What is a customer worth to you over a year? What percentage of enquiries do you actually close? Those two numbers tell you what you can afford to spend to get one enquiry — and whether any marketing plan on the table is realistic or fantasy.

The most common way small businesses waste this money is scattering it: a little on ads, a little on posting, a little on a new logo, a little on a podcast. Six half-efforts produce nothing you can measure or learn from. One concentrated effort produces a number you can act on.

Our bias, plainly: most small businesses do not have a marketing problem. They have a connection problem. Fix why people should care, and every rand spent afterwards works harder.
